Would you dare to question who you really are?
Would you dare to take the necessary steps to become all that you are capable of becoming?
Recently I saw a powerful video that summarized real stories of people from around the world that demonstrates how significantly more connected we are with other races than we may presume.
Casting agencies filmed people from various walks of life and a wide variety of occupations to talk about their personal relationship to their ancestry and nationality. After this, they were asked to take a saliva DNA test.
Based on these results, together with the participants’ personal stories, 16 of them were selected to show the results of their DNA analysis.
The participants only opened the envelope that contained the findings one time, and the film captures their shocked reactions.
The results were astonishing! Participants, who had emphatically and patriotically defended their background and heritage, were blown away to learn that it was only a portion of who they are.
As an added bonus in the film, two random strangers from different nationalities discovered they are distant cousins.
This video was powerful, and it had me think about our own personal DNA stories.
How well do you know your DNA? Do you know what is fixed and what is mutable about it?
DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid. That’s a mouthful of a word…and to think we can learn so much about it just from a saliva sample!
From a cultural perspective, our DNA is hardwired in us. We are not only the sum of our parents, grandparents, and entire family tree; we are, to one degree or another, the collection of all the people who have come before us on the planet! If we think about it – that’s empowering news. We are not alone, we are all inter-connected.
Thanks to Epigenetics, it’s been proven that exciting power resides in each individual to maximize their own health and wellbeing by intentionally influencing the expression of their DNA.
Epigenetics is an emerging field of science that studies alterations in gene expression caused by factors other than changes in the DNA sequence or alteration of the genetic code itself.
DNA is comprised of chromosomes which carry genetic instructions used in the growth, development, functioning, and reproduction of living organisms.
The ‘epi’ part in the word epigenetics stands for what transcends or supersedes genetics. This is the part you have power over.
In other words, just because people in your family have suffered from premature aging or had heart disease, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, or dementia, etc., it does not mean you will, too. UNLESS…you engage in the same lifestyle habits as they did.
Epigenetic change is a common and natural occurrence and can be influenced by several factors including age, nutritional intake (or lack thereof), environment, lifestyle habits, and any state of disease.
How does this work?
The cell membrane which surrounds each cell in your body is the bridge between the inner world of the cell (including your DNA) and the extracellular matrix (fluid) that surrounds it.
Receptors on your cells (which are like eyes) read the extra-cellular environment (the environment outside of the cell) analysing the nutritional content, oxygen levels, and toxicity.
This communication exchange between the inner and outer environments determines what is going to happen at the level of your DNA. This directly impacts your health, vitality, immunity, and overall wellness.
When the environment is chocked full of the proper nutrients, lots of fresh oxygen, and low levels of toxicity, this has a positive effect on the expression of your DNA.
In contrast, you are negatively impacting the expression of your DNA when you engage in poor nutritional habits (consuming high levels of sugar, food additives, preservatives, and not taking needed supplements), or live in chronic stress (limiting your oxygen intake) or using pharmaceutical drugs and other unhealthy toxic substances.
New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Mark Hyman, states “Food is not just calories, it is information. It talks to your DNA and tells it what to do. The most powerful tool to change your health, environment and entire world, is your fork.”
This is a powerful statement and taken seriously can have a tremendously positive impact on your health and life.
The issue, however, is that our food in most instances is nutritionally deficient. Due to commercial farming practises and the escalating number of water dams that prevent the redistribution of minerals; most crops that we consume are substantially deficient.
Years ago, folks put wood ashes from their wood burning stoves back into the soil to replenish minerals. Because of modern day appliances like ovens, this is no longer done. They also put minerals back in from composting and animal manure.
In his bestselling book, EPIGENETICS, my dear friend and mentor, Dr. Joel Wallach, talks about these issues and how to address them; his purpose is for us to be able to maximize our potential.
Dr. Wallach’s ground-breaking and award-winning research in the realm of nutritional deficiencies explains the negative health implications and diseases of lacking the 90 essential nutrients that are required on a daily basis to feed our cells.
It’s wonderful to know that it can be easy to give your body these important nutrients. When you do so, amazing things happen, and your DNA potential is optimized!
